Leveraging off the work on deforestation in Brazil, I designed new ways of structuring climate finance to avoid carbon released from deforestation. My research focuses on Jurisdictional REDD+, deploying economically determined counterfactuals, and sustainability-linked bonds and loans with modeled KPIs.
My work was featured in Bloomberg for financing concepts designed for Brazil and Kenya, and it has informed the first sustainability-linked financing frameworks, issued by Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and forthcoming in Kenya. Similar work is now being replicated for countries of the Congo basin. Check out the World Bank's Sovereign ESG Data Portal with a range of indicators to support such sustainability-linked financing.
